“Christ in me, yes, Christ in me. Filling with me the hope of all the glorious things to come. And may we be covered in the dust of our Rabbi.”

 In Jesus’ day, rabbis taught their students as they walked together along dusty roads. Disciples followed so closely behind their teacher that the dust stirred up by his footsteps would settle on them. Their goal was not simply to learn information, but to absorb their rabbi’s wisdom, character, and way of life.

This powerful image reminds us at First Methodist Midland that part of living out our vision of Returning with Jesus to the Goodness of the Garden means to walk so close to Jesus–our Rabbi–that we become covered in His dust. Overtime we become transformed and begin to reflect His light out into the world.
