By plane, bus, DVD, stakes and feet, that’s how the Spring Prayer Walk was accomplished for God Bless Midland!. Most prayer walks involve walking in a certain neighborhood and praying for that neighborhood. But we wanted to be a blessing to the whole city of Midland and not just a single area. To do that, we needed to do things differently. And so, the five components of the spring walk were born: the virtual prayer tour, the city buses prayer walk, the four corners prayer walk, the air prayer walk and the actual walking prayer walk.
The virtual prayer tour provided a way for those who could not be a part of the actual walk to participate and pray for our city via a DVD or YouTube. This emotionally moving video is a collection of photos which takes the viewer through the city with music, scripture and the Lord’s Prayer. Over one hundred individuals have taken part in this initiative. This does not only include our church members, but others, from around the state and in others countries. God is so good!
The city buses prayer walk involved sending “prayer walkers” two by two and sometimes three to go ride one of the six bus routes that encompassed the city. As they rode in the bus, they prayed for the city and also made contact with others riders. Through this initiative, we were able to see what a blessing the bus system is to our city. Because we didn’t have to drive, we were able to see the breath and life of Midland. It was truly a blessing.
We wanted to cover every corner with prayer and we did! Now, at four strategic places just outside the city, are iron stakes with God Bless Midland! logo sticking out of the ground. These stakes at each location were simultaneously and ceremonially inserted into the hard West Texas dirt to signify the four angels that protect the work that God is doing here. If God is for us, then who can be against us? His grace abounds!
A motto for Midland is the sky is the limit. We took it literally and flew in a small plane over Midland to pray down blessings and ask the Lord to open the heavens to send rain to our land. We mounted up with wings like eagles and made it a point to fly over the coordinates that coincide with the stakes at the four corners. God’s mercy was reigning over us.
Our last part of the Spring Prayer Walk was the actual walking and praying around certain city and government buildings like the hospitals, youth detention center, courthouse, police station, central fire station and city hall. As one of our participants said, “It was an hour well spent. It isn't often that we stop and think about the basic freedoms we enjoy because of the hard work of the police department, the judicial system and our city leaders.” We only gave a little of our time, but they give their all. They are the true servants. May the Lord bless them.
The Lord has heard our prayers and now we await His response. His word does not come back void. It will accomplish it all. He will shine His face upon Midland and be gracious unto her. He will lift His countenance upon Midland and give her peace. He will bring us both the spiritual rain and the natural rain.
Special thanks goes out to all who made this prayer walk possible. The key to making this initiative a success was your participation and commitment. Your faithfulness has not gone unnoticed and your reward is at hand.
God Bless Midland!
