Early in 2011, the congregation of First United Methodist Church of Midland set a goal to completely fund and build a home for a local family through Habitat for Humanity. More than $56,000 was raised and enough church members were recruited to build the house at 306 South Adams Street in Midland.
On Sunday, November 20, 2011 the new home was dedicated to the new homeowner, Elizabeth Parra, a grandmother raising her twin grandsons.
“Excitement is an understatement for what we feel when we think about this family having a comfortable and secure place to raise their family and be good neighbors in their community,” said Dr. Tim Walker. “We give God thanks for the opportunity and pray that “God Bless Midland!” through this Habitat build.”
“Midland Habitat for Humanity is honored to be a part of the First United Methodist’s “God Bless Midland!” campaign sponsoring an entire house,” said Alynda Best, Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity of Midland. “Imagine! First United Methodist is using a hammer to put God’s love to work, building not just a house, but a home where these two boys can grow into all that God intends.”
Midland Habitat for Humanity has been building homes in Midland County for 20 years, and this will be the 108th Habitat home constructed.
